Windows 7 having "access denied" when going to a Windows 2000/2003 file share
Hello, I have a question with Windows 7 in a Windows 2003 domain environment. The problem is users who are on Windows 7 are getting a username and password prompt to access shares that work fine for Windows XP users. The shares are across Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 servers, and I checked the permissions for folders that work on both Windows 7 and Windows XP, but can't find any difference in the settings. To confirm the problem I also did this from my workstation, Windows 7 Professional and logged in as a domain admin, same problem. Most of the shares work but it's a few that don't and again, they work just fine in Windows XP just not Windows 7. I did a search on this problem but the majority of topics where about sharing items from Windows 7 to Windows XP. I have a feeling that there's a possible security issue between Windows 7 and how it works with Windows 2003 or older versions of Windows. For additional information, all of the workstations are patched as current as of last month. Suggesstions welcome and thanks! Rob

I tested this today and using an local account works, but a domain account does not. Is there a patch that allows security access between 2000 and 7?

I think I found the problem. The server I'm trying to connect to is running Windows 2000, and about a month ago had to do a major restore. When the restore was done I assumed it was patched to the same level as the backup but from a reinstall process, it was back to Windows 2000 server with no service pack. The server is running on extremely old hardware and it's very touchy, plus a major system so I'm going to leave it and work on moving the server to VM before patching. I'm also going to build a Windows 2000 server on my workstation to test and confirm this is the problem. I was able to access another Windows 2000 server which is recently patched, but when I exported the patches, I am not sure which ones actually enabled Windows 7 clients, if at all this is the real problem.
